But just how “spoiled” were they?
In the 80’s bleach stains were a trend.
The parents did not even have money. He wanted new clothes was told no, so he put his clothes in bathtub and poured bleach on them. Parents bought him new clothes.
My roommate is an application essay reader for a university’s business school. He was just telling me about a kid who wrote his “overcoming hardship” essay about how he really wanted a boat because all of his friends had boats, and it was hard for him to be left out. Then he overcame his hardship when his parents bought a boat.
Well, they already bought it so…
Was at the Ford dealership getting my oil changed and killing time by walking through the big showroom. There is a Mustang GT350 sitting in the middle with a huge bow on it and folks gathered around waiting for someone. Minutes later the family comes in with their son who immediately yells about wanting it in blue instead of black and denting the passenger door with a swift kick.
Chances are high you’ve met a spoiled brat or two in your life.
But just how “spoiled” were they? One Reddit user posed the question and got some rage-inducing and “impressive” answers. Are you ready to come face-to-face with these brats?
What’s the worst case of “spoiled rotten” that you’ve seen?
Illegal activities get you … chores?
Okay I’ve got one. My boyfriend’s little half sister. So her parents are real hippies, live at least 40 minutes from the nearest town which doesn’t have much anyway, they live on an Eco friendly farmlet which her parents built from scratch. Since the age of say 10? She’s now 16, my boyfriends sister has been a stealer of money. Started off by taking coins when she was babysitting for neighbours eventually finding out where stashes of cash were kept and then the neighbours found out and told her parents. They were mortified but didn’t do much apart from tell her off and make her promise she wouldn’t do it again. Little things like that happened and same outcome. Then her grandad passed away who left a share of $1mil to her mother which was used to upgrade the farm buy more land etc. she stole money from her dead granddads wallet in his fucking pocket when he was lying in the house dead when no one was looking. All she got was a bit of a tell off. She never has to give the money back because she spends it first. Her parents just say ‘work it off’ by doing chores.
Now she’s 16 and her latest crimes have been stealing her mums card to buy $800USD of makeup online. Her parents took the make up from her hoping to return it but not before she replaced the make up in the boxes with old bottles. They let her keep the make up still let her do all her school camps, parties etc. the last I heard, her parents started a BnB, made a couple of grand only to have it disappear because she found out their internet banking passwords transferred it to herself, then spent it on food, friends, make up all in a weekend before they could find out.
Her punishment? Working it off by doing chores.
It makes me sick. I had to do chores for free! I’m still doing chores for free in my own house. F*cking hell
God dad Don
This will probably get lost, but this is one of my favorite spoiled kid comeuppance stories ever.
Had a friend “Don” who had 2 kids, a year apart in age. When his son turned 16, Don was ready to give him his PRISTINE Volkswagen. Don really babied his cars, so this Jetta, though about seven years old, was truly in like-new condition, a car that most normal 16 year olds would be thrilled to have. I would have been thrilled to have it myself!
So Don tells his son the plan and his son goes “Dad, I’m not driving THAT car. It’s a seven year old Jetta. I need a new pickup truck.” After taking a deep breath so he didn’t throttle his son, Don simply said “Well, then, I’ll drive the Jetta for one more year and then give it to your sister when she’s 16. If you want a new pickup truck then you’ll either have to ask your mother or buy one yourself.”
Now Don and his kids’ mother had been divorced for years and, through a series of bad choices, his ex-wife had barely two dimes to rub together. Don had gotten remarried to a woman who was a very successful and wealthy business owner. So his son (very mistakenly) thought that Don and his current wife would foot the bill for whatever the son wanted; how very wrong he was…
Fast forward a year, his daughter is very happily driving the Jetta. Don bought himself a brand new Mazda. His son has access to neither of them. In desperation, his son bought himself a crappy $800 beater just to get himself to and from work. Lesson learned, I hope. I applaud Don for sticking to his guns and teaching his kid not to be an entitled asshole at an early age…
Blue Man Birthday
When I turned 16 all I wanted for my birthday was to see The Blue Man Group perform. I saved my own money to pay for my own ticket. I gave my mom the money, and I was really excited because my mom said she had the tickets and everything. My mom, my sister, and I all got in the car to go see the show. We arrived at the wrong place and I immediately thought something was wrong. When I ask my mom why we were there she said that my sister wanted to see “O” by Cirque Du Soleil so she just bought tickets for that instead. I was so blown away that even though it was my birthday and my money, my sister had the final say over what we ended up doing. I refused to see the show and opted to walk through the casino the entire time instead.
That’s a long way to go to get some jeans.
When I was 15 I was dating this girl that I met at a coffee shop downtown. Her parents were LOADED. Like home movie theater, wine cellar, live in maid loaded.
The girl got a brand new Lexus for her 16th birthday. It took her 4 times to pass her driving test. A week later she totals the car so they buy her another one.
Her parents also flew her from California to London to go school clothes shopping.
Spoiled or sociopathic?
I was on a school bus as a senior. As we stopped at a house, there was a dead dog by the road. The little girl getting off said to her friend who pointed it out “oh yeah we got him this weekend. My dad will just get me another one, so it doesn’t matter.”
Grown women get jobs. Just sayin’
We all went to a private, pretty expensive school in the US. The ‘spoiled rotten’ girl got a degree in Journalism and promptly moved to London to find a job.
Her parents rented her an apartment, and I assume paid for her life, for about 2 years before she was forced to move back because she never looked for nor was employed while there.
Once back in the states she refused to live in her parents house, citing she was a grown woman how could this be expected of her.
Her parents bought her an apartment in NYC.
Last I heard she still lives in that apartment, without a job, but is/has moved because it’s in ‘shitty Brooklyn’ not Manhattan.
That backfired, big time.
A girl in high school volleyball, acted like she was the hottest shit on the team even though she was the designated bench warmer. No one wanted to be her partner in our practices and warm-ups since she was a bitch. Her mom ended up coming into our practice and screaming and crying about how we were “bullying her baby” and how “her baby was only ever nice to us and we abused her”. The girl was smirking the whole time her mom was having a hissy fit.
The best part was our coach’s response of “uh okay then…”. Her mom then said that her daughter would no longer participate in volleyball since we don’t respect her daughter or the mom. That made the girl start crying because she didn’t want to quit volleyball.
TL;DR: girl has her mom lecture entire volleyball team, backfires and mom forces daughter to quit team
Congrats to mom for going back to college.
My boyfriend’s sister has skirted the line of “spoiled rotten”, but for now, she’s just “spoiled”. She throws fits the moment school and work get a little too challenging for her (like full-on, screaming temper tantrums). Whenever she feels overwhelmed, her mom will spend hours doing her research homework and writing her papers for her. (I would actually report this to the school if it wouldn’t be blatantly obvious who did it. Her mom is an educator and should know better.)
She once had her boyfriend drive four hours out (and another four back) to come pick her up during a family trip because she didn’t have a space private enough to focus on her school work, even though we were all sharing rooms and dealing with the lack of space equally (her mom ended up doing that school work for her). Her parents even offered to give her the master bedroom to herself, which would’ve had two of us sleeping on the floor.
I should mention, this girl is 22 and in college.
She does have a sales job, which she’s surprisingly really good at, which is why I think she still has hope of being a productive adult.
Oh, iDon’t think so.
A friend I went to High school with got a slightly smaller iPadPro for his birthday, he really wanted the bigger one with more memory. He proceeds to put it on record and throw it off a roof in retaliation. His parents then buy him another iPadPro (‘the correct one’ as he put it). I don’t talk to him anymore because he was a condescending ass.
Cereal is tearing this family apart!
Apparently it’s me. According to my older brother and sister, I’m spoiled rotten because Mom bought me Cap’n Crunch after my brother and sister left the house when they went off to college.
This happened when I was ~15 and 30 friggin years later it’s brought up at every family gathering of how spoiled I was because I got Cap’n Crunch instead of Frosted Flakes.
Oh the shame I’ve lived with.
What a charming bunch.
I definitely don’t come from money, but I grew up absolutely comfortable and content. The heat wasn’t always on but we always had food and that’s all I could ever ask for. I kinda had a thing with this guy who I knew came from money and one weekend he introduced me to all his friends.
It… it was honestly hard to watch. This group of people were renting out an AirBnB which they just TRASHED and no one cleaned or even blinked an eye. It was the most rampant abuse of drugs an alcohol I’ve ever witnessed. They laughed when I talked about playing basketball in the street (I guess it’s funny because I didn’t have my own court?) I’d told my guy that I grew up across the street from a meth lab and he threw it out to the group as sort of a “fun fact” I guess– hilarious. I saw one guy shut down another’s opinion by saying, “I’m sorry, can you fly to Hawaii right now? Can you have a helicopter land right outside this f_cking house and take you to Hawaii right now? No you can’t, so shut the f_ck up.”
And I overheard one of my guy’s friends say “dude is she loaded?” And he goes “no she’s poor as f_ck” and the friend said “whoa… that’s f_cking sick.” He even told me later “Well this is just really different for us because I’ve only ever hooked up with heiresses.”
It’s nice when things work themselves out.
Went to high school with a guy who got a Porsche 911 for his 16th birthday, we also went to college together, for his 21st birthday got a Maserati. Ran into him again when we’re both around 26, he was driving an Audi R8. Condescendingly told me I could get a car like that also if I worked hard.
Well his working hard was for his dads company, in which he basically was the office manager, never finished college never worked a day in his life. Dad has a huge construction company and this guy couldn’t even tell you what a 2×4 was. No siblings so this company will be his one day and I’m sure he will run it into the ground. (This was my thinking 10 years ago)
We are both 36 now, well pops gave the company to his son 4 years ago. Found out 3 months ago the company went bankrupt. This tool lost multiple contracts due to his arrogance, spent company money on personal necessities, was audited by the IRS owed more than 8M in back taxes. He’s going to jail! So yeah. F*ck him.
We hate math, but not this much.
I was tutoring a 7th grader. I asked him to do the first half of his homework without his calculator. This wasn’t calculus. I was asking him to do basic multiplication. 7×5 4×8 nothing crazy… He threw a tantrum, and I stuck to my guns. His mom came in and asked what was wrong. She asked him to do just 2 problems without the calculator, but he continued to throw a fit. So she went down to one problem. He throws himself on the floor, rolls around, grabs things and throws them, all while screaming that we’re ruining his life and just want to see him fail. At this point I’m just sitting back appreciating my parents, appreciating the fact that i don’t have children… she tries to calm him down, and eventually she tells me its ok to let him use the calculator. He got a Wii U the next day.
Practice what you preach.
My friend’s mom is a VP for a company and absolutely loaded.
He got a brand new car for his 16th birthday. He got his entire college paid for and it took him years after he left the school to actually get his degree. He doesn’t have a job (got fired from his mom’s company) but still wears high fashion and goes on multiple international vacations a year.
To top it all off, he’s a staunch socialist. He goes to all the protests that shut down highways and what not and hates the 1%. I’m not making any claims about the viability of socialism, but when you do nothing with your life and live a higher standard of living than people who work 50+ hours a week, it’s pretty tone deaf to tell them to give up more of their income.
We can believe it.
“My dad bought me the OLDEST car ever! Can you believe it?”
“So and so invited us to their house for a Christmas get together but they asked us to bring an appetizer to share. Can you believe it?”
“My dad is making us pay for our wedding photographer! Can you believe he’s so cheap?” (Meanwhile her dad paid for the rest of her wedding)
“On the first day of work my boss asked me to work 8 hours! Can you believe it?”
All of this is said without sarcasm by the same 30-year-old person.
Let’s all carve that Thanksgiving chicken.
BIL threw a fit on Thanksgiving day because there was no chicken. He tried going to two different fast food places to get chicken and they were closed. He made such a big fuss that for Christmas his mom bought chicken tenders from zaxbys so he wouldn’t be mad. He’s like 28 I think.
I once overheard this one guy who got a million dollars from his dad call it a “small loan”
