Recently President Donald Trump declared that it was a “scary time” for men in America because they could be accused of anything and, whether or not the accusation was true, they would be seen as guilty (hello, welcome to the lives of black people everywhere). He was referring to the fact that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford claimed that Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school. Her claims almost threw a wrench into his appointment to the Supreme Court, except not really, because honestly, he was always going to be confirmed, basically no matter what anyone said.

In response to Trump’s inane statement about it being a “scary time” for men, a dancer/choreographer on Twitter, whose name is given as Lynzy Lab and whose account is under @mercedeslynz, wrote an amazing song parody, pointing out that it’s always a scary time for women, and illustrating exactly how easy men have it. The video with the song went totally viral and has been viewed over 15 million times as of Tuesday.
In the song, Lab cheerfully sings while strumming a ukelele, “I can’t walk to my car late at night while on the phone, I can’t open up my windows when I’m home alone, I can’t go to a bar without a chaperone and I can’t wear a miniskirt if it’s the only one I own.”
She goes on to sing that she can’t use public transportation after 7 p.m. or go to a club just to dance with her friends, but, she sarcastically sings, “It sure is a scary time for boys.”
In the song, she lists things that are “scary” for men, like never knowing when someone they’ve assaulted in the past is going to openly accuse them of the crime they actually committed.
At the end of the song, Lab changes her tune as though she’s suddenly remembered, it’s not a scary time for men, because “they’ve always had the upper hand, they’ve always had a choice,” she sings.
“It’s time for women to rise up, use our collective voice, the day to vote’s November 6, so let’s go make some noise.”
Actor Mark Ruffalo retweeted the song, writing, “Listen to women like @MercedesLynz to give you an idea of the world as they experience it.”
