Breakdancing became an unexpected attention-stealer at the 2024 Paris Olympics. But probably not for the reasons they’d hoped.
An Australian breaker nicknamed “Raygun” became immortalized in meme history with her wild dance moves, which included hopping around like a kangaroo and rolling on the ground like a dog who had smelled something vile in the grass.
She’s caught plenty of flack for the bold performance. And some are accusing her of reducing breakdancing to a mockery, bribing her way into the games, and causing the event to be axed from the 2028 Olympics.
I don’t know how much of that is true. Nor do I care. What I do know is she danced her heart out. And the people calling her an inspiration, praising her for her carefree spirit, drown out the haters. That’s the Raygun I’ll remember.
