Rami Malek Fell Off The Stage After His Oscar Win And Was Treated By Paramedics

Rami Malek’s memorable night at the 2019 Academy Awards took a painful turn when he tumbled off the stage after accepting his golden man.

The 37-year-old actor had just accepted his Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody when he was photographed falling off the stage into the audience portion of the theatre.

Malek was helped to his feet and paramedics were called, though the actor did not appear to be injured and ended up speaking with reporters in the press room shortly afterwards. According to Entertainment Tonight, he was later spotted at the Governor’s Ball popping bottles of champagne and showed “no outward sign of injury.”

Perhaps most impressive of all was how expertly Malek managed to keep his Oscar aloft as he slipped off.

The award marked the first Oscar win for Malek, who gave an emotional acceptance speech.

“Oh my god. My mum is in here somewhere. I love you, lady. My family thank you for all of this. My dad didn’t get to see me do any of this, but I think he’s looking down on me right now. It’s a monumental moment.”

“We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself. The fact that I’m celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we’re longing for stories like this.”

“I am the son of immigrants from Egypt. I’m a first-generation American. Part of my story is being written right now,” Malek said. “And I could not be more grateful to each and every one of you, and everyone who believed in me for this moment.”

He wrapped up his speech by thanking his costar and girlfriend, Lucy Boynton.

“Lucy Boynton, you’re the heart of this film. You are beyond immensely talented you have captured my heart. Thank you so much.”
