Over the weekend, JP Brammer tweeted that there were two dogs and a cat outside his apartment door, waiting to enter.
“There’s a… cat and two dogs knocking on my apartment door?” he wrote, quickly sending the post viral. “Like inside the building what do I do omg.”

Brammer posted a video as evidence in a subsequent tweet, captioned, “what….?” In the clip he is heard greeting the pack, laughing as he asks them, “Hi…watsup? Y’all?”

When Brammer walked out the door to greet the animals, the cat snuck in without his noticing. “I had to check my own video for evidence,” he wrote.
I tried to go hang out in the entryway but the cat SLIPPED IN without my noticing I had to check my own videofor evidence dkfjekskdjalen pic.twitter.com/oQOjp5PxUU

“No idea how to herd this cat upstairs.”
ok so the apartment above mine had a wide open door which is where they came from. I got the dogs inside (but just heard a glass shattering noise so yikes?) No idea how to herd this cat upstairs

“Yeah this cat is settling the f—k in, help.”

At this point, Brammer revealed a “crucial development”—the dogs figured out how to open their front door themselves.
ok crucial development I’m STRESSED pic.twitter.com/e8iz134a9M

He decided to chill with them in the hallway…
ok I’m afraid of them getting out of the building so I’m just gonna chill with all parties involved until owners or building management shows up pic.twitter.com/kX2FmQOawG

…but then got into his place anyway (“it’s hopeless,” laughed Brammer.)
these are the masterminds I’m up against by the way look at this shit pic.twitter.com/A4fXZ3rTo1

He tried pleading with them.

(It doesn’t work.)
“Everyone’s on your side. All of Twitter is on you and your friends’ side,” he tells the cat.

“Our dynamic has dramatically shifted, now we’re just friends. It’s fine.”

The cat in particular appeared to be very pleased with itself.

After what seemed like hours, Brammer was able to enlist the help of another neighbor. They MacGyvered a string device to hold the animals inside.
ok so we checked and the apartment is indeed empty. dogs are in there now. cat is in there as well. my mental peace is literally hanging by this one string the other dog owner set up pic.twitter.com/LJ13Wt9Sn0

Brammer told BuzzFeed News that it took “forever” for the owners to return home and that he was stressed beyond belief in the meantime.
“I was like, ‘Oh god, they’re dead,” he said. “Oh god, the ownersare in their bedrooms or something and there’s dead bodies in there and the [Twitter] thread’s gonna take a huge turn for the worse, because where are they? So I was having this panic attack.”
Alls well that ends well though, because the owners did finally return to their home and their escape artist animals.
Hi twitter! I just wanted to let y’all know I finally got home and the pets are with their owners who seem lovely. they’re safe and I’m muting this thread ???? thanks for spending a weird day with me!

Naturally, Homeward Bound references abounded as Twitter swooned over the wholesomeness of Brammer’s thread.
People noted that if animals show up at your front door, you have no choice but to let them in. It’s basically a law.
It was clearly ~meant to be~*~*
The cat was naturally pinpointed as the mastermind of the situation.
Other Twitter users—including Questlove—shared similar tales of escape-artist cats and dogs.
Peanut figured out how to open the front door ~20 mins after we moved in. Figured out how to call the elevator the next day. The first week was just people finding him in different parts of the bldg. Thank you for taking care of them pic.twitter.com/VnHAro0WfK

i’ve had eleanor (big dog) for 7 years. the little dog (gus gus) showed up and moved in- then a few weeks later the cat (frankie) showed up and decided he lives here too. they all nap together, play together, eat together, poop together. it’s wild. pic.twitter.com/HEo7hrO6mm

This is Mizzy, who 5 years ago came to our door and meowed. Had been abandoned; became 2nd cat, wonderful household member. Don’t let 3 harmless pets who sense a kindred spirit stress you. Help them as best you deem appropriate. pic.twitter.com/4KxtOSD08o
