5 Mankini-Wearing Men Impersonating Borat Arrested In Kazakhstan

Just when you thought everybody had every Borat reference in the world out of their system, five Czech dudes decided to go out in public in actual Kazakhstan in ultra-revealing mankinis like the one Sascha Baron Cohen wore in the movie. Lots of Kazakhstan natives were, of course, not too pleased. Lots of people in the country outwardly resent and downright hate not only the movie but Cohen himself for ridiculing their beloved home.

This group of fine young gentlemen decided to don the swimsuits in what looks like relatively cold weather, which could not have been too flattering. The tourists were then actually arrested in their mankinis for indecent exposure. The fine came out to a whopping $67 (still cheaper than a parking ticket in Los Angeles). These guys bothered to dress up (down?) and go out to embarrass themselves in public and what they got in return was jail time and fines. Real buzzkill, really.

Kazakhstan is apparently ultra-sensitive about the whole Borat thing. Kinda like when you bring up that one time your buddy got way too drunk and you remember it as a funny thing, but it’s like the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to your buddy and they get all quiet. Only with a whole country.

“I wonder how would the Czech authorities react if our citizens did the same in their country?” asked a Kazakhstan journalist.

Someone replied, “I think they would not have reacted. It is because our police are so sensitive.”

Someone else said “They should have had a criminal charge for insulting the honor of the nation,”

So, you know, there’s some tension there.

BUT, Sascha Baron Cohen to the rescue!

He recently posted on social media that he’s not only acknowledging them, but he is going to pay all their fines:

“To my Czech mates who were arrested. Send me your details and proof that it was you, and I’ll pay your fine.”

So not only did they get some I’m sure much-appreciated star power behind them, but the whole thing will have ended up being free for them. What a time to be alive.
