Gwyneth Paltrow Deletes Tasteless Instagram ‘Tribute’ To Stan Lee After Backlash

As many Marvel fans know, our beloved creator and mentor Stan Lee died this week at age 95. The legend, who lived a wonderfully colorful and creative life, was mourned by many in the industry who had the pleasure of working with him and ultimately looking up to him throughout their lives.

As many celebrities shared touching tributes on social media, one actress was called out for her pretty rude and tasteless tribute to the late writer. Gwyneth Paltrow had shared a photo with actor Chris Pratt on her Instagram, promoting a dress she wore that was on sale on her Goop shop.

She wrote:

‘For my pal who asked, this @retrofete dress now for sale in the @goopshop. Thanks for the hug @prattprattpratt.’

Later, after hearing about Lee’s passing, instead of posting a different photo for a tribute, she updated the caption to add:

UPDATE: I just heard about Stan Lee, he will be so missed. What a genius and truly so lovely. True gentleman.

While yes, her words were kind and sweet, the notion of promoting a product in collaboration with a memorial is tacky and straight up cold. In retrospect, not saying anything would have been more appropriate than to add a tribute to a product placement. People online were calling her out for being so ridiculous.

Since receiving backlash for her obnoxious tribute, Paltrow has since deleted the Instagram post and has not posted another tribute to Lee in his death—how ironic. Goes to show you that you should never trust someone who named their child Apple to have all that much common sense, sorry not sorry.
