Disney in the 90s was basically untouchable. I mean, think about it: they gave us The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan, and The Rescuers Down Under. All of that magic was packed into just ten years. Who else could pull that off? DreamWorks? Yeah, right.
And let’s be real, the only reason Shrek made such a splash was because it followed an era dominated by Disney’s fairy tale perfection. Sure, Shrek poked fun at all things Disney, and while I love the big green guy and his sassy sidekick, those 90s Disney classics have stood the test of time way better than the pop-culture-packed ogre flick.
