Celebrities go through the same things in life that the rest of us do. They have ups and downs, joys and sorrows, romances and breakups. Of course, the difference is that everything they do is highly publicized. Imagine trying to get over your ex, but seeing him on a billboard in an advertisement for his latest movie. Ugh.
But sometimes, just like in the best of love songs, they get back together again after breaking up. Like these 13 couples, who dated and broke up, only to reunite and end up totally married. Awww!
1. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met in 2009, on the set of a movie they were doing together, Nicholas Spark’s The Last Song. They got engaged in 2012 but broke up less than a year later. After being apart for a few years, the pair rekindled their romance in 2016 and got married at the end of 2018 in a small, surprise (a surprise to us, not to them) wedding.
2. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos seem like one of the most stable couples in Hollywood—they’ve been married since 1996 and have three kids together. But, as it turns out, they almost didn’t get married. Ripa said on the Comments by Celebs podcast that right before getting married, they broke up, but then got back together and eloped to Las Vegas.
3. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel (who won’t name her son Batmo Biel) broke up for a bit in 2011 after dating for four years. But they stayed close, with Justin saying that Jessica was “the single most significant person in my life” during the breakup. They got back together later that same year and then married in 2015. Now they have a son named Silas.
4. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
Back when Chrissy Teigen and John Legend first got together in 2009, John apparently tried to end things with Chrissy because he felt “stressed and busy” and believed he’d be “happier single.” But Chrissy simply didn’t let him break up with her, saying just “No.” Within a couple of days, John came around to her way of thinking and decided he wanted to stay with her after all. They got married in 2013 and are now the parents of the adorable Luna and her baby brother Miles.
5. Prince William and Kate Middleton
Prince William and Kate Middleton started dating in 2003 during college (sorry, university) but split four years later in 2007. When they did get engaged, the pair gave a joint interview, during which Kate confirmed that William was the one who ended things. ” She said she “wasn’t very happy about it,” but that she “learned a lot” about herself during the breakup. The pair got back together that same year, got engaged in 2010 and married in 2011, and are now the proud parents of three kids together. Fairytale ending (so far).
6. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are now married, but three months after they first started dating, Dax broke up with Kristen because he apparently wanted to keep seeing other people, Kristen said that hearing that made her “liquify and fall to the ground,” but she also claims she felt “respected” that Dax had told her the truth. But Dax only made it four days before calling her and telling her, “I don’t know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they’re just not as interesting as you, and I don’t know what I’m doing.” They got married in 2013 and now have two kids.
7. Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie
Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie’s relationship was very off and on at the beginning. They met in 2011 on the set of Game of Thrones and reportedly got together in 2012. But then they split in 2013, got back together in 2014, but then split again in 2015. They got back together in 2016 (per the pattern, it seems), but instead of breaking up again in 2017, they got engaged and then married in 2018.
8. Adam Levin and Behati Prinsloo
Adam Levine started dating Behati Prinsloo started dating in 2012 but split less than a year later. They spent two months apart but then decided that they wanted to give it another go. They got back together and got engaged, getting married in 2014, and now they have two daughters together.
9. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler
Kristin Cavallari broke up with Jay Cutler in 2011, after being engaged for a year. She revealed that “a few things needed to change” in their relationship and the “only way” that Jay would see how serious the issues were was to break up entirely. They attended therapy together and got back together in 2012, getting married in 2013. Now they have three kids together.
10. Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade started dating in 2009 but took a break in 2013 after four years of dating. During that time, Dwyane and another woman had a baby together. But by the end of the year, Gabrielle and Dwyane got back together, and they got married in 2014. In 2018, they had their first child together, daughter Kaavia James.
11. Nick and Vanessa Lachey
Nick Lachey met Vanessa Minnillo (now Lachey) in 2006 on the set for his music video for “What’s Left of Me.” They were together three years when Nick allegedly got “cold feet” and ended the relationship. But within months they’d worked it all out and Nick proposed in 2010. They got married in 2011 and now have three kids together.
12. Pink and Carey Hart
Pink and Carey Hart started dating in 2001, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the couple. Pink proposed in 2005 the couple got married in 2006. But after being married for two years, they decided to split. They claimed that things between them were still friendly, an assertion which was proven when Carey showed up in the video for Pink’s hit, “So What?” In 2009, they got back together and have been steady ever since. They have two kids.
13. Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin (now Bieber) got married in 2018 after a whirlwind romance. But that wasn’t the first time the couple had dated. There were rumors of them dating as far back as 2014, and they were definitely dating by 2015, because they went on a tropical vacation at the end of the year. At the very beginning of 2016, Justin posted a picture of him and Hailey kissing on Instagram. But Justin got back together with his long-time on and off girlfriend, Selena Gomez. Fast forward to 2018, when Hailey liked a shirtless pic of Justin on Instagram, and the rest is now history.
