This woman booked the front-row seats on an airplane thinking she’d nabbed the best seats ever. Plenty of legroom. No one in front reclining into you. Sounds like the dream, right?
There was just one problem with the seats: they faced the entire plane.
Now the woman found herself the unwanted star of the in-flight entertainment. And she shared the mortifying experience on TikTok, where the video quickly went viral.
TikToker Jess Smith unknowingly booked seats that faced the entire plane
Jess Smith (@jesssmith_36) booked the front-row seats as a “treat” for her trip to Greece.
When she realized she was awkwardly facing the entire aircraft, she recorded the hilarious gaffe for TikkTok, where the video racked up over 12.4 million views.
The seats were originally made to accommodate flight attendants and therefore faced the opposite direction.
“I am never going to recover,” she wrote in the caption.
The internet found Jess’ seating blunder hilarious as the reactions poured in
“I lowkey wanna do this just as exposure therapy,” said one commenter.
“Like, there is literally NO choice but to face it & get through it.”
Another added: “I love how everyone in front of you is just awkwardly avoiding eye contact.”

Accidentally booking the rear-facing seats happens quite often
Jess isn’t the only one who ended up in the less-than-ideal seating situation.
Former Real Madrid footballer Sergio Carrallo (@sergiocarrallo) and his wife Caroline Stanbury had to suffer through the awkwardness just last year.
“When your assistant booked 1A 1B and you thought they were the best seats on the plane,” he told his followers.

Although staring into the eyes of dozens of strangers for several hours may not be the most comfortable seating arrangement, research shows you’re more likely to survive a plane crash while facing backward.
According to Reader’s Digest: “Forward-facing seats allow the occupant’s upper torso to move forward and consequently do not provide the same level of protection,”
Try telling that to the introvert who’s stuck up there and they’ll reply that they’d rather die in a fiery wreck.
“I’d actually prefer to ride on the wing” — Commenters felt for poor Jess and her awkward seating arrangement
