I truly believe that everyone in their life should work in the restaurant industry at least once. Whether you’re a server, a busboy, a hostess, a bartender, or working in the kitchen–working in hospitality will teach you more life lessons than any other job out there, I promise you.
Despite what many think, being a server and working in this industry is incredibly difficult. You need more patience than brand new parents. You need to be polite, respectful, and pleasant, even when people are absolute and complete morons. Trust me when I say, being a server is no walk in the park–no matter how many tips you go home with.
One Twitter user started a thread of wild roasting with this pretty solid statement:
Ppl that work in food are braver than the marines, I SALUTE you. Retail is hell but food…now that’s hell x100. I could never, I’d choke somebody.

From there, people who work/have worked in the industry began sharing the worst experiences they’ve had with customers. Some of them are too painful.
A customer really spilled her drink like purposely just for me to clean it up and then asked me if I even spoke the language (finnish) wallahi I count my blessings and pray for sabr cause I have none atm

I had a lady argue with me telling me there was a bone in her scallop, couldn’t comprehend there are no bones in scallops, maybe shell. Had a couple steal a lobster tail off another table when they went out To smoke, had an old guy show up in boxers because we are “casual dining”

Some customers don’t even know what a proper medium steak is lmao.

Customer: can I have a cheeseburger with no cheese
Me: so a hamburger?
C: NO A CHEESEBURGER WITH NO CHEESE
they (a couple) OBVIOUSLY thought they knew my job better than me, so I charged them a cheeseburger with no cheese rather than a hamburger (which is cheaper) ??♀️
— мαℓιη∂α (@princessmulan7) September 13, 2018
Also, “can I have three large drinks?”
“What would you like to drink?”
Like, you think I can read your mind?! ??
— мαℓιη∂α (@princessmulan7) September 13, 2018
I’ve had people actually throw drinks at me and my staff, use every slur possible all because their drink wasn’t free. If you complain about a $1.89 cup of joe, you shouldn’t be having it period

when i worked at kfc there was a wait on biscuits so i asked this lady if she’d like cookie instead of a biscuit, she said that was fine. i handed her the tray & she went & sat down & 5 mins later she came back up to the counter & threw the BIGGEST fit bc i “forgot her biscuit”.

One time a customer took his drink off my tray causing the whole thing to tip and hot chocolate to go all over the floor. When I came back to clean it up, he took of his shoe and told me to clean that too. ???♀️

Once a lady told me to make sure that they made her burger with fresh beef. I assured her we only have fresh beef not frozen. She said she use to work in restaurants and knows how we “get lazy and decide to use the frozen patties”…. WE DON’T HAVE FROZEN PATTIES SIS

Someone threw a can of coke at me because I was outside waiting for a lift home and they thought we were closed. We were open for another hour. I'd actually finished my shift and STILL had to deal with shitty customers.

I once got a cheeseburger thrown in my face after handing it out at a drive-thru, because she wanted a double. Melted cheese still stuck to my face I still had to replace it with a smile.
