I’m sure we’ve all felt the sting of desperately trying to find a comfortable bra. It’s more than inconvenient — and then, to top it off, it’s expensive! So making sure you have the right fit is incredibly important.
Enter @nicolacrookonline, aka Nicola Crook, a TikToker who is sharing the best way to pick a bra: by breast shape.
In her video, bra expert Nicole shows us different breast shapes and their ideal bras, then explains how to figure out your shape and fit the bra properly.
So the shape!
First up, pendulous breasts, aka breasts that are fuller at the bottom. For these, Nicola suggests full coverage or balconette.
Side to side, or east-to-west breasts (wide set with more tissue on the side), Nicole suggests a plunge bra or one with side support.
The next shape Nicola tackles is an asymmetrical breast — one is bigger than the other. So she suggests adding a shaper on your smaller side.
She also says you should go for full coverage and stretch lace if you have this kind of breast.
Bell shape breasts, which are smaller at the root and wider at the bottom, Nicola says you should try a plunge style (aka balcony style). She also says stretch lace for full coverage works well.
Athletic breasts, which are wider set with more muscle and less tissue, get a plunge or push up.
And finally, round breasts — full all over — she recommends a plunge, full coverage, or molded spacer.
“Bras are basically built for this round breast shape. So, a lot of the times, you set yourself up for failure,” she said in an interview with BuzzFeed.
She continued, “If you don’t know your breast shape, it just creates this problem of not being able to get into the right style of bra. Because all bras are not built equally, they are built dependent on your shape. If you don’t fit into that ideal, then you struggle. And that’s what nobody ever tells you: That [the problem] is not you. The problem is the brand manufacturers that are building bras based on this outdated concept.”
