Although it is April Fool’s Day, it is certainly no joke that because it is now April, we are only two weeks away from the very first episode of the final season of Game of Thrones. This is the moment that many fans, for years, have been anxiously waiting for.
With the buzz surrounding the show and the closing of what will go downin history as one of the most-watched shows in television history, showrunners and producers have been trying to keep the finale season hidden away, lock and key. With the previous seasons getting leaked early on the dark web, it’s difficult for the cast and crew to truly keep everything “a secret.” However this time around, there seems to be very little information known about what is to come in the final episodes of Game of Thrones.
On Sunday, however, HBO decided to air not one—but two—30-second trailers before the premieres of VEEP and Last Week Tonight. Before long, fans had uploaded both trailers to YouTube.
While there are no major spoilers in either trailer, there is some information to be seen.
The trailer opens with Tyrion’s voice-over saying “we must fight together now, or die,” which, can be inferred that he’s talking to Cersei—who did not want to team up with Jon and Dany.
Then, we’re cut to Jon walking away from Dany, which looks like a disagreement of some sort.
We see Beric Dondarrion holding his flaming sword in some sort of fight scene. Then, Jon has a voice-over talking about “the enemy.”
We’re cut to Tyrion, Varys, and Sr Davos looking up in the air—at what is probably Dany’s dragons; or, maybe even the White Walker Dragon!
We leave off with legs of the undead approaching, and a breathing dragon—with Jon saying: “They’re coming.”
Goosebumps.
The second trailer holds some amazing scenes to come…
The trailer starts off with voice-overs of Sam and Jon—and, opens with the reunion we’ve all been waiting for: Jon and Arya.
Then, we see Cersei’s smug face—probably talking sh*t about someone. We’re cut to Greyworm suiting up for what appears to be battle.
Then, we see Sr Jorah coming in to talk to Dany—now that Sam cured him of his disease and he’s all better, they’re probably going to have a bittersweet reunion. I’m sure he won’t be happy to learn Dany is with a new man.
We then hear Jaime’s voice-over atthe end of the trailer saying: “This goes beyond loyalty, this is about survival,” which, is probably directed at Cersei—who is angry at him for going to fight alongside Dany and Jon.
We’re left off with Arya running through the crypts of Winterfell, gasping for air, probably running from something.
Clearly, this season is shaping up to be truly an iconic moment in TV history.
The season premiere of Game of Thrones will debut on HBO on Sunday, April 14, at 9 p.m. ET.
