‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theory Hints At Daenerys Betraying The Living And Becoming The Night Queen

With the final season of Game of Thrones upon us, it seems as though fans are going buck wild with theories predicting how the show will truly end. Will Jon Snow end up on the Iron Throne? Will Cersei actually die? Will Tyrion ride a dragon? So many questions—so little time to answer.

After the season premiere on Sunday, people flocked to Reddit and online blogs to share what they truly believe will go down in Season 8. One fan theory that truly amazed everyone revolved around the idea that Daenerys will switch sides—from the living to the dead—and join the Night King in his mission to kill everyone living and turn them into blue-eyed psychopaths.

The theory comes to Reddit from user u/marisaann26, and it has to do with a look back at a pretty important episode in Season 2. In the episode titled “Valar Morghulis,” Dany enters the House of the Undying in Qarth to rescue her dragons. During her time inside the House of the Undying, she’s taken on a journey through time and the Seven Kingdoms. One part of the trip is a moment in the Red Keep in King’s Landing. The area is completely destroyed and covered in snow. Dany sees the empty Iron Throne and tries to sit on it, but is stopped by the sound of her crying dragons.

She then exits King’s Landing and ends up in a snowstorm beyond the wall, where she spots a Dothraki tent in the blizzard. Inside the tent is her late husband, Khal Drogo, and their son. She speaks to Khal for a few moments and then hears the screaming of her dragons—again. She ends up leaving Khal and her son to be reunited with her dragons.

In the same episode, Dany is captured by Pyat Pree, a warlock from Qarth who is pretty damn creepy. He tells her:

“You’ll be with your dragons through winter, summer, and winter again. For a thousand, thousand seasons you will be with them. Until time comes to an end.”

u/marisaann26’s theory suggests that Dany will do anything—abandon anyone and everyone—to be with her dragons. After all, she’s already lost one.

The Reddit user hints that Dany is even willing to give up the Iron Throne for her dragons. Essentially, if the Night King takes all three of Dany’s dragons and turns them to ice dragons—will Dany still want to fight against the Night King (and, essentially her children)?

u/marisaann26 says:

I believe that the Night King is after Dany to be either his new queen or to take over as queen (him wanting peace=death). One way or another, both living dragons will die in battle. Distraught by losing her dragons, Dany with be persuaded to join the Night King to be reunited with her dragons = she gets her ICE THRONE.

The theory suggests that Dany may abandon Jon Snow and the living to fight alongside the Night King so she may be reunited with her dragons. And, if this is the case, then the prophecy of Pyat Pree does hold true—she’ll be with her dragons in winter again.

Her theory also states:

In the history and lore of GoT, there is a story of the 13th commander of the Night Fort fell in love with “a woman made of ice.” She became his Ice Queen and they ruled together. People would sacrifice babies to them, similar to how Crastor sacrificed his sons. Legend says, the 13th commander was brother to Brendon Stark, who went to kill the 13th commander for his evil crimes. The king of the Night Fort was defeated and his name erased from history. Maybe this will be paralleled?

This suggests that Jon Snow could be the king of the Night Fort who is defeated and erased from history—while Dany takes over the Army of the Dead with the Night King, becoming the Night Queen.

To add to this theory, Emilia Clarke was quoted in an interview with Variety when talking about the final season of Game of Thrones and how things leave off for her character. She said:

It f*cked me up. Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is… I’m doing all this weird shit. You’ll know what I mean when you see it.

This does support the theory that Dany becomes the Night Queen—because it would leave a bad flavor in anyone’s mouth to know she turned over to the other side. It would be a huge plot twist and definitely would fall under the realm of “f*cked up.”

u/marisaann26 also stated one missed detail:

We know that the white walkers were taking Crastor’s sons and turning them into more white walkers.

What if the White Walkers can only change those of pure blood(incest)? That would make Daenerys an important person to the Night King, considering her magic. Also could be possible that the person has to be a sacrifice in order to be turned, meaning Dany will have to willingly give herself to the Night King as a sacrifice.

Some people on Twitter already had an idea that Dany may die and become the Night Queen, too.

This theory—of course—is the most iconic of them all. Anyone for a crossover?
